Better Sleep Skills, and the Importance of Quality Sleep

Ongoing poor sleep will have a detrimental impact on your energy levels, and reduce your ability to cope with stress and life’s daily challenges.

Obtaining healthy sleep is critical for your physical and mental health and overall quality of life. There are a range of habits, known as ‘sleep hygiene’, that will help you gain more hours’ sleep, fall asleep faster, and experience deeper restfulness.

Sleep hygiene habits to follow:

1.  Avoid caffeine
2.  Make your bedroom into a cool dark environment conducive to sleep
3.  Establish a regular relaxing pre-sleep routine
4.  Go to sleep only when tired
5.  Don’t watch the clock
6.  Don’t watch TV or read in bed
7.  Limit daytime naps to 30 minutes
8.  Nap early, or not at all
9.  Avoid heavy or rich foods close to bedtime
10.  Exercise in the morning, not the evening.
